TRANSPORT AUTHORITY REAPS SUCCESS AGAINST OVERCHARGING OF FARES BY PUBLIC PASSENGER VEHICLES

Kingston - Jamaica, November 13, 2025: The Transport Authority is advising that, “Operation Reset”, which was launched on Monday, November 10, with focus on overcharging of fares by public passenger vehicle operators has reaped success.  Over the 3 days 52 prosecutions were effected for overcharging of fares and 32 motor vehicles seized.   {{ "20251021_093728.jpg" | asset_url | img_tag }}File photo: Transport Authority Managing Director, Mr. Ralston Smith and a Rout Inspector on an operation. Managing Director, Ralston Smith stressed that the Authority will ramp up its operations across the island to stamp out this illegal practice.  As such, operators who continue to overcharge passengers could have their road licences suspended or revoked.                        In the meantime, commuters are being encouraged to assist the Authority in cracking down on this practice by reporting incidents of overcharging by calling (876) 926-8912 or WhatsApp (876) 551-8196, providing the licence plate numbers and the routes for the vehicles; or you may send us the images or videos of the vehicles in which you experience overcharging.   -30-   Corporate Communications Tel: (876) 926-8912/(876) 277-9671
